Day Three #NaPoWriMo2019

Day Two #NaPoWriMo2019 Poem One

By Alex McGehee

“Daddy!” I cried out. Two syllables. Give him more time to hear,

To get up. “Daddy!” The word my mother tells him not to go to.

“Mommy!” I call the devil instead, God isn’t listening today, his fallen angel has his ear.

No help comes.

I bang my head on the red bar above my bed to bring myself to sleep.

I’m six, with Autism, and I can’t sleep with all the light and noise and hunger and pain.

I listen to my parents, laughing and happy

In their private world of adult time,

The dolls in bed, packed back in their boxes.

I will not rise before seven am in fear of breaking curfew.

Day Two #NaPoWriMo2019 Poem Three

By Alex McGehee

In daylight, a slip is a white-out.

In darkness, a slip is a black-out.

In day, I dream.

At night, I live the life too painful to be awake to.

My dreams and life, inside out, as if to protect the delicate stitch-work of reality,

I wear my dreams on the outside, and live my nightmares in my head.

Dreams.

In my dreams,

I roll under a car, desperate not to be seen

By the boy in the baby blue top-down.

silent, flat, begging God to be invisible, begging for it to end. Have I just passed out

From the torture, blacked out, dreaming

When I awake?

I see the brown work boots. Around the car.

First two then six then eight, ten.

“Over here!”

I am dragged out, beaten.

I awake into my blackout.

How I slept, going to sleep early.

Nightmares and daydreams, all in one,

My lovers help me escape from hell.

You, Amanda Palmer, and Belle.

Tweet, tweet. Is it an April fools joke,

A whole global month dedicated to poetry?

Fool me freely if it be so,

I would rather be a fool writing poetry

Than any thing less foolish that excluded poetry.

How to?

Write a poem a day,

Bring a friend,

Or a stranger on the street,

The information highway of the internet.

A poem each day, and what is a poem,

But words which you feel

Are beautiful

Beautiful words.

Wow! This is a lot of garbage! So many left overs!

I’m like a giant project bear-osaurous-ragon

that leaves heaps of flesh and bones

as it tears through its kidnapped plunder persons,

feasting as it wishes by its whims,

with no thought to waste,

or scarcity of resource.

I am a horder,

a monster,

a project whore

of waste and squalor.

Prolific,

In excess.

Ko-fi for National Poetry Writing Month!

I am currently participating with my wife Maia in National Poetry Writing Month 2019 (#NaPoWriMo)! Our goal is to each write (at minimum) 30 poems before May 1, 2019. You can read our poems as we post them all month on our blog, https://thequestforenlightenment.com. You can also find out more information on how to participate in NaPoWriMo and join in the poetry writing challenge yourself on the official NaPoWriMo site, http://www.napowrimo.net. They post new challanges and poems to inspire you to write all month long!

We are tweeting about #NaPoWriMo and #CampNaNoWriMo over on twitter @McGehee_Alex and @Meruda_Maia. We are always looking for other creatives to give a shout-out to, and to talk with! If you love being creative then get over to @McGehee_Alex and @Meruda_Maia on twitter and tell me what you are writing about at the moment!

It is never too late in the month to start #NaPoWriMo or #CampNaNoWriMo! I have started projects with just a few days left, so if you think poetry might be fun, definitely head over to http://www.napowrimo.net for the day’s (optional but always helpful) poetry prompt and dive right in!  Then head over to @McGehee_Alex on twitter and link me to your poem–I’d love to read it and re-tweet you!

Finally, if you like what we do, support us with coffee over at Ko-fi.com/alexmcgehee136! “Coffee” is how the ko-fi site refers to a $3 donation, the concept being you can support your favorite creative individuals by making the donation the price of a cup of coffee. For each coffee we get, we will personally thank you on our blog, https://thequestforenlightenment.com, for fueling our work! If we get more than two coffees in a single day, we will keep writing poems until we have written a poem and a personal thank you for each coffee we have gotten.

May you have the peace and strength to flourish and shine your full radiant creative light today. May all whom you meet see you as the irreplaceable, lovable, deserving of sincere respect and loyalty person that you are. May you be seen and valued by all whom encounter you. You are beautiful, my friend, and the world shines brighter for all that you think, say, do, and are.

-Alex

NaPoWriMo Day 2 Poem 1

Day Two #NaPoWriMo2019 Poem One

By Maia McGehee

“Always have a plan,”
Raen Raimes is just that kind of man

Once a leader, now on the run
All in all, he hasn’t been having that much fun

But in order to unite the land
He’ll have to take a stand

With his daughter and son by his side
Raen just might be able to turn the tide

Day One #NaPoWriMo2019 Poem Two

By Maia McGehee

My hands take whatever they can reach
My feet are swift and sure
There’s no lock or barrier that can stop me
But I have no morals to teach
Neither my brother nor I received much nurture
Still, I’m loyal to my family, that I now see
